Good Afternoon,
We hope that you and your family are well and looking forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!
Today, the BCPS and BCAA announced a pause to Winter Sports (Soccer, Basketball and Wrestling). This step was taken due to the logistical stress placed upon schools with the rising positivity of COVID in the greater Broward community.
As a result, Winter sports will not resume practice until December 14, 2020. They can participate in voluntary conditioning workouts that take place outside, but no sport-specific equipment can be used, and social distancing guidelines must be employed. If head coaches elect to have these workouts, students will need to scan in with the Cypress Bay QR code, arrive with a face covering on, and bring their own equipment and water. No balls can be used in these voluntary workouts in any capacity.
With this pause, we will plan for practices to resume on December 14 and our first contests will begin on January 4, 2021. The Winter Sports schedules will be updated in the near future to reflect these updates. Efforts will be made to reschedule those contests lost due to the delay but it is unlikely that all will be rescheduled. The BCPS and BCAA still plan for Winter Sports to participate in the FHSAA State series.
While Winter Sports will pause, Fall Sports will continue to practice and complete their seasons by December 18, 2020.
Our Fall Sports that qualify for the tri-county championships will begin those competitions the week of December 7, 2020. More information about team placement in these championship events for Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country will be forthcoming next week.
For those student-athletes participating in Fall Sports, health and safety protocols will continue to be employed for student arrival and departure from campus. On a daily basis, student-athletes must check-in by scanning our QR code. We encourage all of our student-athletes and coaching staffs to social distance when they are not engaged in practices and also employ the use of face coverings in most circumstances.
We apologize for these delays, but continue to emphasize the health and safety of our student-athletes and coaching staffs.
